How Heritage Hall went from one outdated display to two dynamic touchscreens by switching to Gipper Touch

Heritage Hall had an existing touchscreen display that was outdated and difficult to update. As long-time Gipper Engage users, they heard about Gipper Touch and were eager to switch. They replaced their prior vendor (keeping their same touchscreen kiosk) and even introduced a second display, specifically for their Hall of Fame. Director of Sports Media, Luke Steelman, "couldn't be happier" with Gipper Touch and "would never even consider going with anybody else."

How their experience changed

Before Gipper Touch

  • A design that looked stuck in the 90s. Heritage Hall's previous vendor built them a clean-looking home screen at install. The submenus told a different story. "The button interfaces were not very visual. They looked more like a 90s website button. No graphics included."
  • A back end built for developers, not athletic directors. Editing content meant scrolling a long page of nested menus, expanding and collapsing them to find what you needed, and writing in HTML. "It was very HTML-type entry. It wasn't a problem for me, but it made it harder to bring in help to do any of the editing, because not everybody has that background."
  • A vendor that disappeared after the sale. "Once they had us signed on and locked into a contract, they basically bowed out. There was no improvement to their system or anything. They had us as a customer. They knew the money was coming in. They didn't really feel like we were a priority."
  • Updates that took days. Adding something like a new Hall of Fame class on the old platform would be a multi-day effort due to the clunkiness of the software. "Three to five business days," Luke estimates.

With Gipper Touch

  • A visual editor that mirrors the touchscreen itself. Gipper Touch's back end looks like the front end. "I can navigate the back end as if I were clicking the buttons on the touchscreen. The simplicity and the efficiency on that back end is really the major, major improvement."
  • Brand consistency across social media and their interactive touchscreen displays. Heritage Hall's social media graphics and on-campus touchscreen displays now share the same templates, colors, and design system. "Brand consistency is a huge factor. Fans recognize the content as official, put out by the athletic department. It makes everything more professional."
  • Constant engagement, not just a static screen. The touchscreen displays get constantly used between games and events on campus. "There's never a game where I walk through that hallway where I don't see people at the kiosk. Our younger athletes are looking at it and saying, 'here's the record for baseball, I'm going to break that.' It's engaging and motivating the future generation of our athletes. It gives our alumni a chance to go back and show off to their kids: here's dad's name on the leaderboard."
  • Ongoing innovation and support. Heritage Hall gets a platform that keeps getting better release after release, backed by a support team that treats them like a priority instead of a closed deal.

"I couldn't be happier with Gipper Touch.

The brand consistency, the fan engagement, the back-end efficiency, the ease of use - it is fantastic. Because it's so easy to use, we're able to update the content even more frequently.

And the support Gipper has given us across not only Touch, but the whole line of products, and how well they all integrate with each other...it's why we would never even consider going with anybody else."
